About

Why have we built Grupeta?

The other cycling app makes it hard to see what's actually going on in your local area, and harder still to find people to ride with. Its competition layer sits behind a paywall, and the leaderboards have long since calcified around all-time records that an average rider has no realistic chance of touching. We built Grupeta because both of those things felt fixable — a cycling app that's genuinely about your local scene, and a form of competition that's worth turning up for if you're not a pro.

A local feed of people actually riding near you

Open Grupeta and you see the rides happening in your area — not a follow graph of people you met at a sportive three years ago. It's a feed of your local scene, so you can tell who's been out, where they went, and what looks worth doing this weekend. It's also how you find people to ride with: spot someone whose pace and routes look right, message them, and ride together.

Competition that resets, with categories that fit you

Every region has a hand-picked set of segments and a region-wide points league. Both reset every season, so the leaderboards stay live instead of becoming a museum of long-retired efforts. Categories follow UCI age and gender brackets, so the people you are competing against are roughly comparable to you. Group rides also get their own internal segment leaderboards, so after a ride you can see how you stacked up against the people you actually rode with that day.

The practical stuff for planning a ride

On the map you'll find wind forecasts for your roads, cafés worth a stop, and bike workshops. The things you tend to look up before heading out, in the same place as everything else.

The model

Closer to a meet-up app than a tracker

If it helps to compare, in spirit we're closer to something like Celebreak or Playtomic — apps built around finding local people to play sport with — than to today's cycling apps, which are mostly about logging numbers for a follower count. The local, social side is the bit we think is missing, and that's the bit Grupeta is for.
